an afternoon at the cemetery

if you've been to paris and haven't strolled around the cimetière montparnasse or the beautiful cimetière du père lachaise, you've really missed out on something. i got to visit all the graves i wanted to: serge gainsbourg, oscar wilde, simone de beauvoir, jean-paul sartre, jim morrison and edith piaf. morrison's grave was extremely hard to find eventhough i had a map. his grave actually has a stone block placed over it after many attempts to unearth it. people have apparently been arrested for performing devil worship rites, orgies and drug parties at his grave. crazy hippies.
oscar wilde's grave is the most original grave i've ever laid my eyes on. it really stood out from the rest. apart from the grave having been abused by ugly graffiti including such pearls of wisdom as " you are the best! you can never die!" and "oscar forever and more smack!",it was mainly adorned with kisses. and so, i painted my lips red and kissed it.

and here's my favorite serge song:

my grandparents.

it's been 3 years now since i visited my grandmother and all my other relatives in spain. it's a disgrace from my part. so i definately have to go this year. i dearly miss them.

i won't forget to raid my grandmother's attic too. i always do when i'm there, but i've still got plenty more to discover through the vast and boundless heap of clothes. last time i was there i went through boxes full of her old stuff. it's like shopping in a vintage store minus the paying. it's too bad that her shoe size is 33-34. she's so petite.

tip of the day: don't discard of any clothes cuz one day they'll be back in style again. i mean, just today i wore a really nice 90's style cardigan i had when i was 14! and if anything, my grandkids will probably appreciate going through my collection of 90's- .... clothes, because i know i do.

lenny

when i was a little girl i wanted to become an orchestra conductor. i used to sway my arms back and forth in the air with chopsticks pretending i stood infront of a grand audience conducting(i still do sometime). this idea formed after i had seen west-side story for the first time. i loved the music so much that i made my parents buy me the "leonard bernstein conducting west side story" album. it was more a phase than anything else since i didn't end up persuing it. let's face it: i'm no prodigy.
but the art of conducting is fascinating. it's all sweat, blood and tears. it's moving to see them tracing shapes in the air, reaching for the note. i love it. especially watching leonard bernstein's emotionally charged performances. his style is very flamboyant and that appeals to me.

i've read up on leonard bernstein. the conductor, the composer, the pianist, the teacher. it's really astonishing how he was able to popularize the classics. he's had a tremendous influence on so many different levels. it's just so unfair. few people are born with great talent and most people struggle their whole life to find out what their "talent" is.

bernstein's television show "young people's concerts" that aired back in the 60's, was his take on classical music with a commentary format. really inspiring to watch. i'm going to buy the dvd collection but there are some youtube clips available.
i wish my collection of classical music was bigger. i'm really not a connoisseur at all. all i know is that when i listen to it, it has a complete different effect on me than other music. it consumes me and leaves me with a profound wonder of not only music but of life itself.

oh and if you have to know, i moved on from wanting to be a conductor to popstar to newscast reader. all of them before the age of 13 and none of them intact.

"Life without music is unthinkable, music without life is academic. That is why my contact with music is a total embrace.” LB

fake or not?

it's the fake boob game. seriously addictive.

what is a wasteman?

bad choices

everyone makes them. some less than others. i on the other hand, quite regularly. for instance this morning, i bought this shirt.

it's shit. i know it's shit. you don't have to tell me. chinese symbols i know. but changing is hard work. and i never say shit like "if i only knew what i know now" or "to err is human". only assholes say shit like that.
but trust me if i could afford a bad-choice-kid i'd get one.
