tokyo lucky hole

when japan's sex industry boomed in the early 80s, nobuyoshi araki encountered an air of ingenuity, enthusiasm and energy in the establishments. something attracted him which he saw went beyond the normal sex acts. in a market where hedonism and human lust are prominent; it appeared to have become perhaps intended to attract notice.

the photos were taken between 1983 and 1985 in kabuki-cho located in tokyo's shinjuku area, housing many peep rooms, private cubicles, no-panties coffee shops, etc. further, araki's favourite no-panties cafe was "fresh out of the bath" where the waitresses wore towels wrapped around their hips and served coffee on trays which were really miniature bathtubs.

the photographs can be found in an extensive 700 page collection: tokyo lucky hole.

i am absolutely in admiration with this book. the raunchy graphic porno shots aside, this book of has always been captivating no matter the many times i've flipped through it.
